The Optically Unbiased Grb Host ( Tough ) Survey . Iii . Redshift Distribution
We present 10 new gamma-ray burst (GRB) redshifts and another five redshift limits based on host galaxy spectroscopy obtained as part of a large program conducted at the Very Large Telescope (VLT). The redshifts span the range 0.345 ≤ z . 2.54. Three of our measurements revise incorrect values from the literature. The homogeneous host sample researched here consists of 69 hosts that originally ...
متن کاملThe Swift Gamma-ray Burst Host Galaxy Legacy Survey. I. Sample Selection and Redshift Distribution
We introduce the Swift Gamma-Ray Burst Host Galaxy Legacy Survey (“SHOALS”), a multiobservatory high-redshift galaxy survey targeting the largest unbiased sample of long-duration gammaray burst hosts yet assembled (119 in total). We describe the motivations of the survey and the development of our selection criteria, including an assessment of the impact of various observability metrics on the ...
متن کاملA Survey of the Host Galaxies of Gamma-Ray Bursts
We used 45 HST/STIS orbits in Cycle 9 to obtain deep images of the host galaxies of eleven gamma-ray bursts. Our goals are to study the morphologies of the host galaxies, to obtain precise locations of gamma-ray bursts within their host galaxies, and to determine star-formation rates in the hosts. We present preliminary results for GRB 980425/SN1998bw, GRB 980613, and GRB 9809703.
متن کاملGamma-Ray Burst Studies With the Energetic X-ray Imaging Survey Telescope (EXIST)
The Energetic X-ray Imaging Survey Telescope (EXIST) is a sensitive, wide eld of view hard X-ray (10 { 600 keV) coded-aperture telescope. This paper describes the capabilities and characteristics of EXIST as proposed to NASA's Medium Class Explorer (MIDEX) program. A larger version of EXIST is being studied as a NASA New Mission Concept. In addition to its primary science objective, which is to...
متن کاملA Submillimeter and Radio Survey of Gamma-Ray Burst Host Galaxies: A Glimpse into the Future of Star Formation Studies
We present the first comprehensive search for submillimeter and radio emission from the host galaxies of twenty well-localized γ-ray bursts (GRBs). With the exception of a single source, all observations were undertaken months to years after the GRB explosions to ensure negligible contamination from the afterglows. We detect the host galaxy of GRB000418 in both the sub-mm and radio, and the hos...
